Singer, songwriter, and pianist Leslie Sanazaro released her first EP Stars in the Attic in 2006 and embarked on a 20-city tour through the US and Canada, performing and raising awareness for pressing local environmental issues. Her second release On Your Roof (2008) was recorded in Nashville by producer David Browning. That year yielded a nomination by the St. Louis Riverfront Times for Best Singer-Songwriter and over 70 shows in Seoul, South Korea.
The first full-length album release came in 2011. Titled First We Cry, Then We Laugh, the 11-song collection highlights issues confronting women survivors of human trafficking in Cambodia and raised funds for AFESIP, an organization which provides therapy, education, skills training, and medical attention for young women escaping sex trafficking in Asia. She performed several shows in Cambodia in 2009 for trafficking survivors and organizations there working to help victims.
NOW! A song for Black Lives Matter
NOW! Video produced by Lenny Mink and Leslie Sanazaro
In July of 2016, after the shooting death of Philandro Castille by a police officer, Sanazaro composed a song in support of the Black Lives Matter movement. The song, “Now!” was recorded in front of a live audience just a few days later at Gaslight Studio in St. Louis with a host of over 20 local St. Louis musicians who showed up in support, learned the song on the spot, and recorded together, all in one night.
The following month, with a volunteer camera crew, a video was shot in support of the new song. This new song and its video was debuted at a community release rally in support of Black Lives Matter on Thursday, September 22, 2016.
Leslie currently resides in St. Louis and performs as a solo artist and with her band.
